Inspiration for Early Spring
It's warm and sunny here in Portland and the plants are beginning their journey of opening to the sun. Knitter's can be slightly selfish and wish for more Winter than others, so we can knit more, right?! We know the rain in coming back, so here's some inspiration to get you through till the real summer sun shows itself.

Hillary's Amazingly Inspired Baby Smock
Hillary found this adorable pattern by Sarah Walker called Retro Baby Smock, and whipped up an incredible little sweater in just one day! She used one skein of Spincycle's Independence and finished it beautifully with bird in heart button from Beadfreaky. We've been prancing around the shop picking out yarns that we think would make cute Retro Baby Smocks. What about Cumbria by The Fibre Company? Perhaps Danube Aran by Crystal Palace? Ooh, Wool Clasica by Manos del Uruguay? The possibilities go on and on... Are you inspired yet?

Melissa's Version of A Classic Baby Blanket Pattern
This classic Chevron Baby Blanket pattern from Espace Tricot is always a hit and a wonderful way to get some knitting time in on Blue Sky Alpaca's Organic Cotton. It takes just 5 skeins and the color options are endless! We have 18 colors to choose from and can spend all day mixing and matching them . My color choices changed many times while I waited to cast on this project.

Pebble Sock in Experimental Colorways by Black Trillium Fibres
We have yet to cast on this brand new and very special yarn, mostly because we can't choose just one colorway and keep picking up and putting down various skeins of gorgeousness. Yes! This is Pebble Sock by Black Trillium Fibres in Portland. It's a squishy and soft fingering weight, 100% superwash wool. These colorways are experimental, so they may not be repeated and are only available here at Starlight.
Melissa is pretty sure she's going to use this special yarn to make the Triyang shawl by Leethal Knits. If you haven't seen this amazing pattern, it's definitely a must! We will be gathering for a knit-a-long using the Custom Triyang pattern and will be hosting the designer herself, Lee Meredith. Stay tuned for more info!
Happy Knitting!
